Minimum Qualifications This position requires a minimum of one year of full-time communications and press experience, either in government, journalism or in campaigns and advocacy.
Bachelor's or Associates degree or comparable public service experience (e.g. journalism, community organizing, electoral campaign, or nonprofit work experience).
Highly motivated, proactive and organized; Strong writing skills and consistent attention to details.
Knowledge of NYC & NYS politics; strong organizational skills, ability to operate under tight and unpredictable deadlines, delegate and manage tasks and work in a team-orientated environment.
Strong interpersonal and public speaking abilities. flexibility about work hours, including occasional availability during evenings and weekends; Proficient computer skills; Photography and graphic design skills a plus.
Professional working proficiency in Cantonese, Mandarin or Spanish is a plus.
Duties Description Responsible for overseeing the office's communication strategy and processes by facilitating press coverage by publishing press releases, hosting press conferences, building relationships with reporters, and pitching stories; managing external communications like statements, letters, newsletters, social media and print media; shaping messaging and speechwriting; and managing a team of interns.
Additional Comments This is a full-time, district office-based position with an ideal December or early January start date.
