Minimum Qualifications Current New York State employee with one year or as a Data Analyst 1 OR bachelor’s degree and three years of experience* in data visualization, and statistical models and data mining tools.
*Substitution: A master’s degree in data or computer science, informatics, economics, statistics, mathematics, or a related field, may substitute for one year of the specialized experience. A Ph.D. in the above fields may substitute for two years of the specialized experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Proficient in data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
• Experience in SQL querying and scripting languages (Python, R, etc.).
• Experience with data warehousing, data lakes, and data pipelines.
• Experience working with complex datasets, including both structured and unstructured data.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Familiarity with GIS data and platforms (ArcGIS, etc.).
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to identify and solve data-driven problems.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Duties Description
• Collaborate with DAO staff to ensure the incorporation of established standards and protocols for enterprise data analysis.
• Collaborate with business units to collect and analyze data to create data visualizations and reports.
• Compile ad-hoc data analyses within assigned business units and provide data and information to management for determination of data standards.
• Assess data structures to determine use in producing reliable and pertinent reporting.
• Interpret, review, and draw conclusions based on data mining.
• Provide technical advice to data analytic teams and business units.
• Develop and maintain queries and scripts to extract and manipulate data for analysis.
• Automate data processing workflows and manipulate data using scripting and programming languages.
• Perform quality assurance testing on established data mining processes and document deficiencies.
• Build relationships with business units and provide status updates.
• Collaborate with Data Analytics team to develop data mining structures for managing data collection.
• May supervise lower-level staff.
• Some travel required (10%).
