Minimum Qualifications Non-Competitive: Bachelor's degree in the natural sciences and two years of post-degree professional research experience in an appropriate field, or a Master's degree in the appropriate field and one year of post-degree professional research experience in that field.
Preferred Qualifications: 1. Previous experience in the analysis of environmental and/or cannabis samples by liquid chromatography. 2. Ability to improve current or develop new organic analytical laboratory test procedures. 3. Strong knowledge of data processing, instrument control software, Microsoft Office, and principles of quantitative analysis. 4. Ability to troubleshoot and maintain laboratory instrumentation. 5. Proficiency working in a regulated laboratory environment.
Duties Description A Research Scientist 1 is needed to support the Wadsworth Center’s Cannabis Reference Laboratory. The Cannabis Reference Laboratory was established to serve the Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) and provide scientific expertise to identify and quantitate chemical contaminants that are known or suspected to be hazardous to public health. The Research Scientist 1 will be responsible for researching and analyzing cannabis samples for potency, moisture, and water activity and compile and communicate the results.
Additional Comments Dependent upon the initial assignment or subsequent reassignment of this position satisfactory background checks will be required. Additionally, exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved with this position; the selected candidate may be required to wear personal protective clothing and equipment and may undergo pre-employment and/or periodic health evaluations and receive specific immunizations.
