Duties Description Under general supervision, performs the tasks of a journey-level Service and Repair Mechanic (Auto Body); repaints equipment owned or maintained by the Thruway Authority, including cleaning, sand blasting, grinding, filling, and priming; does skilled body, fender, and chassis repair; removes damaged chassis parts, straightens frames and other related parts; performs restoration welding; performs fabrication scraping; removes and replaces or repairs body parts such as glass, body panels, upholstery, fenders, running boards, grills, and accessories; supervises helpers, and as required, other journey-level employees engaged in the maintenance and repair of motorized equipment; maintains necessary time and cost distribution records; requisitions parts and equipment as necessary; maintains and is responsible for a Tool Crib Complement assigned to the Shop; maintains Shop in clean and workable condition; ensures that all equipment and tools are in proper condition; drives passenger cars and trucks as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications Four years of experience under the supervision of an auto body mechanic or completion of an apprenticeship program and possession of a driver’s license appropriate to the equipment operated and repaired.
Possession and maintenance of a CDL Class B license issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles will be required. Candidates applying without a CDL B license are required to obtain a CDL permit within 30 days of appointment and obtain the license by the end of the probationary period. Failure to do so will result in termination.
Pursuant to the Federal Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act, pre-employment drug and alcohol testing will be required. Once appointed to/selected for the position, random drug and alcohol testing will be required.
Candidates employed in this position will be required to furnish personal hand tools.
Additional Comments This is a Unit 1/Teamsters position. The NYS Thruway Authority offers an extensive benefits package, including but not limited to paid time off, sick leave incentive, membership to the NYS Retirement System, and 90% tuition assistance.
ADDITIONAL PAY INFORMATION:
This position is eligible for additional annual components of pay which are as follows:
Location Pay: $3400
Geographic Pay: $14000
