Minimum Qualifications Transfer: Current New York State (NYS) employee with one year or more of permanent, contingent-permanent, competitive service as a Plant Utilities Engineer 2 (G-16). OR NYS employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent-permanent competitive service as a Plant Utilities Engineer 1 (G-14) and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
Preferred Qualifications: Candidate should be familiar with the specialized needs of a health-related and/or laboratory facility. Candidate should be familiar with: general energy conservation methodology in a laboratory facility, laboratory capital equipment, specialized HVAC systems, and building management systems. Should be capable of productively participating in capital planning and improvement projects as they pertain to power-plant and laboratory system construction and maintenance. Candidate should also be familiar with systems necessary to provide laboratory services. Experience overseeing preventive maintenance programs, emergency response efforts in case of plant system and/or utility provider failures, back-up power and generator systems, supervision, shift work, and facility procurements. Experience with arc flash and lockout-tagout procedures. Universal refrigeration certification is a plus.
Duties Description The Plant Utilities Engineer 2 will work alongside and supervise Plant Utilities Engineer 1 staff who operate, maintain and repair mechanical and electrical equipment providing heat, steam, hot water, ventilation, air conditioning and electrical distribution in a safe and efficient manner. May also be responsible for supervising Plant Utilities Assistants, helpers, contractors, and tradespeople. Candidate should have the training and ability to work in confined spaces.
Additional Comments Possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted NYS motor vehicle license. May be required to obtain Dept. of Environmental Conservation certifications related to site-specific facility operation. This is a 24/7 shift operation – shift assignment is subject to bidding based on DOH-Wadsworth Seniority time and may be subject to change based on operation requirements. Overtime may be required.
Permanent, Competitive, full-time. Transfer candidates may be asked for SSN to verify title history and eligibility.
For new State employees appointed to graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts.
