Preferred Qualifications: The position requires proficiency in data cleaning, data preprocessing, and analysis using Stata. In addition, the position requires understanding of social science research concepts and methods, and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs. The successful candidate must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with firm deadlines.
Duties Description The Office of Justice Research and Performance (OJRP) is seeking a PhD or Master’s student to work as a Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) in the Statistical Services Unit. OJRP provides research, analysis, and performance data to support New York’s criminal justice system. OJRP responds to the needs of the criminal justice community, addressing the most pressing criminal justice issues with up-to-date data and research.
The successful candidate will support OJRP criminal justice research using a broad spectrum of data. Duties will include data cleaning and preprocessing, as well as conducting statistical analyses. The successful candidate will also assist with preparing written documents that summarize results of data analyses and preparing charts and graphs.
Additional Comments The position requires candidates to be fingerprinted. The GRA must pay for the fingerprint fee, which is approximately $75.
Stipends range between approximately $26 - $30 per hour depending on experience and degree objective, with potential increases in the hourly rate based on GSEU contract agreements. Candidates may work up to 20-25 hours weekly during the summer. Candidates are expected to be able to work 400 hours of service per semester, or 20 hours per week during the academic year.
