Minimum Qualifications The Office of Justice Research and Performance (OJRP) is seeking a PhD or Master’s student to work as a Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) in the Community Corrections Research Unit. OJRP provides research, analysis, and performance data to support New York’s criminal justice system. OJRP responds to the needs of the criminal justice community, addressing the most pressing criminal justice issues with up-to-date data and research.

The successful candidate will support OJRP’s work to update and share information about evidence-best practices in criminal justice programming. Additionally, the successful candidate will assist in developing self-assessment tools (SATs) to assess effective implementation and program model fidelity for Alternative to Incarceration and Re-Entry programs.

Duties Description Must be a current University at Albany, SUNY student enrolled in a matriculating graduate degree program. This position is covered under the GSEU agreement. Please see additional remarks below.

Preferred Qualifications: The position requires understanding of social science research concepts and methods, and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs. The successful candidate must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with firm deadlines. It is preferred that the candidate be familiar with Alternative to Incarceration and Re-Entry programming.

Additional Comments The position requires candidates to be fingerprinted. The GRA must pay for the fingerprint fee, which is approximately $75.

Stipends range between approximately $26 - $30 per hour depending on experience and degree objective, with potential increases in the hourly rate based on GSEU contract agreements. Candidates may work up to 20-25 hours weekly during the summer. Candidates are expected to be able to work 400 hours of service per semester, or 20 hours per week during the academic year.
