NON-COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (NY HELPS):
There are no minimum education or experience requirements for this title.

TRANSFER QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive, non-competitive or 55-b/c status in the posted title and be eligible for lateral transfer; OR be eligible to transfer via Section 70.1, 70.4, or 52.6 of Civil Service Law. The transfer cannot be a second consecutive transfer resulting in an advancement of more than two salary grades.

REASSIGNMENT QUALIFICATIONS:
Current Office for People with Developmental Disabilities employees with one year of permanent, contingent permanent, or 55 B/C service as an Office Assistant 1. If you have less than one year, you must be currently reachable on the eligible list.

55 B/C QUALIFICATIONS:
• Possess the minimum qualifications for this title as established by the Department of Civil Service and listed on the most recent exam announcement.
• Meet the applicable minimal mental and/or physical requirements for the job (with a reasonable accommodation, if necessary).
• Have a current Eligibility Letter from the NYS Department of Civil Service and be able to provide it to the Human Resources Office upon request.

ADDITIONAL:
This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).

For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title maybe filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.

At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.

Duties Description The Office Assistant 1 will perform entry-level clerical and office support work to meet the department needs of the Human Resources Management Office. Candidates must have good communication skills and be able to work as a team player. Duties may include, but are not limited to keeping records, retrieving and compiling information, performing basic arithmetic calculations, mail, supply and inventory functions, some keyboarding and other document preparation tasks, answering telephones, completing forms, answering questions and otherwise assisting customers, and creating or assisting in the preparation of reports, charts, graphs and tables. Assist other clerical staff as needed.
