Minimum Qualifications State Senator Zellnor Myrie's Office seeks a dynamic, dedicated, and public service-oriented individual to join the staff. The Legislative Assistant role is for someone passionate about public service with some experience in policy and advocacy. Qualified candidates for the position will be familiar with the following policy issues, election reform, gun safety, climate justice, criminal legal reform, housing affordability, education and health policy among others.
The ideal candidate will also be politically aware and excited about advancing equity and justice as we strive to serve the District's diverse and vibrant communities and residents. Additionally, the most qualified candidates will possess the following experience and competencies:

Duties Description About Our Office
Zellnor Y. Myrie is a Democratic New York State Senator serving the 20th District, including Crown Heights, East Flatbush, Park Slope, Prospect Heights, Prospect Lefferts Gardens, Windsor Terrace, and Kensington. Throughout his time in the State Legislature, he has tirelessly advocated for voting rights, criminal legal reform, gun safety, and affordable housing.
About Your Role
As the Legislative Assistant you will work closely with the Legislative Director to develop and implement an ambitious, progressive legislative and policy agenda. You will assist the Legislative Director in overseeing day to day operations of the legislative office. The position is based in Albany. Candidates must be willing to work evenings and weekends during busy legislative session days. As exempt management, employees are not eligible for overtime compensation.
Your Responsibilities
The Legislative Assistant role is integral to fulfilling the core duties of serving constituents across the diverse communities of Senate District 20, making a significant impact on the community.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
•Serving as lead analyst for the Senator’s committee
•Drafting, negotiating, and advancing bills through the legislative process;
•Developing and sustaining positive working relationships with advocates, lobbyists, community groups and other external partners;
•Researching legislative and policy issues;
•Representing the Senator in meetings and at public events;
•Developing and pursuing legislative and advocacy strategies in collaboration with the Senator, staff, colleagues, legislators, other elected and government officials, constituents, and advocacy organizations.
