Duties Description As per Civil Service Standards, drives a full-sized passenger bus both on and off State property in order to transport people and material as required. They are responsible for the welfare and safety of their bus and passengers while on duty.
Duties include but not limited to the following as below:
• May map routes, itineraries, and points of call.
• Supervises or personally performs the loading or unloading of personal property on buses.
• Posts manifests, inventories, and other records of goods and people transported.
• Keeps a written record of trips, mileages, stopovers, purchases of gasoline, oil and other materials, as well as bridge and road tolls.
• Reports apparent major malfunctions and needed repairs to appro¬priate supervisory or maintenance staff.
• Performs routine maintenance of passenger buses to ensure that personnel and material are moved as required including; washes and cleans vehicles, changes tires and inflates to proper pressures, replaces windshield wiper blades, checks adequacy of appropriate fluid levels for radiator, battery, and crankcase, adds fluids as appropriate, checks horn, directional lights, head, tail, parking, and emergency lights for proper operation, replaces fuses or bulbs as appropriate, checks proper operation of braking system, may add fluid to master cylinder as needed.
• May operate communication equipment to monitor road, weather, and traffic conditions to insure safe and timely travel.
Minimum Qualifications As per Civil Service Standards. Applicants must possess and keep a valid Class B New York State Driver’s license with Passenger and Air Brake endorsement. The applicant must have and keep a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations.
Applicants must be physically able to perform the tasks of the position and understand and carry out written and oral instructions and physically operate assigned vehicles safely and effectively under various road conditions. Applicants must have working knowledge of the Vehicle and Traffic Law as it applies to the safe and legal operation of vehicles operated, working knowledge of simple automotive repair and maintenance procedures, and working knowledge of routes to specific locations normally visited.
Additional Comments Different hours may be required from time to time to meet the operating needs of the College.
The successful candidate must be authorized to work in the United States. In addition to the annual salary, the position is eligible to receive $3,400 downstate location pay.
