Duties Description
The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Education Policy is seeking candidates for an Examination Composition Assistant position in the Office of State Assessment. This Office is responsible for the development and statewide administration of all State examinations for elementary, intermediate, and high school students. Duties of this position will include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Perform skilled keyboarding, including typing and formatting secure materials such as Regents Examinations, Elementary and Intermediate Science examinations, Rating Guides, Field Tests, Model Response Sets, and Annotations;
• Familiarity with a variety of software including Microsoft Office 365 and other technical programs such as MathType7;
• Prepare and edit exam questions, following specific formatting requirements, adhering to tight timelines, and working with a goal of 100% accuracy for typing and formatting;
• Embed artwork and graphics provided by the Art and Design Unit into exams as needed;
• Answer phone calls and directing them to the appropriate parties. Providing information to routine inquiries; and
• Assist with other support staff activities as requested.
Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Reassignment: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Exam Composition Assistant.
Eligible List Appointment: Candidates must be reachable on the Civil Service eligible list for this title. If you are on the Civil Service eligible list for this title, you may receive a canvass letter. You must complete and return it as instructed on the letter.
Section 70.1 Transfer: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a title SG-9 or above deemed eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
Provisional Appointment: In the absence of an eligible list with three or more candidates willing to accept a position, a temporary provisional appointment may be considered. For provisional appointment, candidates must be a qualified employee of New York State and have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Office Assistant 1 (Keyboarding) or Office Assistant 2 (Keyboarding). Provisional candidates must take the examination for Exam Composition Assistant when it is next offered and must be reachable on the resulting eligible list to maintain employment.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent or temporary provisional appointment. For provisional appointment, candidates must take the examination for Exam Composition Assistant when it is next offered and must be reachable on the resulting eligible list to maintain employment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits.
This position allows for the opportunity to telecommute up to 30% each bi-weekly pay period.
This position leads to a maximum salary of $56,743 based on annual performance advances.
