Duties Description Ensure that the office's daily and long-term operations are effectively working toward the Assemblymember's goals to support the constituents. Primary task is liaison between the office and governmental agencies, stakeholders and community leaders; implement the legislative initiative while managing staff.
Work in tandem with the District Director to maintain and improve office systems and procedures while leading constituent services, community affairs, communications, legislative work and scheduling. Also work with the Assemblymember to develop relationships and achieve strategic goals. Specific tasks:
-Manage office staff: daily tasks, projects, set direction for staff, obtain reports and monitor staff progress.
-Facilitates consistent communication
-Manages relationships with stakeholders: elected officials, state agencies, community-based organizations, neighborhood associations, advocates and labor unions.
-Sets agendas and facilitates meetings ensuring delegation of tasks and projects.
-Establishes, maintains and examines systems so work flows are clear and informative.
-Proposes the policy agenda for the Assemblymember, analyzes legislation, provides policy consultation in key areas of interest for the Assemblymember and prepares briefings on key legislative items.
-Manages the time and priorities of the Assemblymember.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree required; would prefer experience as a legislative director for 1-2 years.
Additional Comments Must work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
