Duties Description Are you interested in starting or advancing your career with New York State? Secure Care Treatment Aide 1 positions provide excellent opportunities for advancement and growth. Candidates from outside or within State Service can apply.

Secure Care Treatment Aides care for patients with severe and persistent mental illness within an OMH secure intensive treatment unit or forensic facility. Additional duties include:

• Observe and monitor patients
• Apply therapeutic techniques to stabilize patients
• Record notes on patient behaviors
• Apply physical restrains to patients as ordered by physician
• Maintain a secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff

Minimum Qualifications Candidates from outside State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement – Statewide (HELPS) program. Candidates must have a high school or equivalent diploma AND one year of direct patient care experience working with individual diagnosed with mental illness or with emotional or social behavior problems.

OR

Candidates within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they are reachable on the current Secure Care Treatment Aide 1 eligible list.

OR

Candidates from within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
