Under the direction of the Regional Park Maintenance Supervisor or designee (Supervising Electrician), the incumbent will perform multiple tasks on low and high voltage systems including:
• Diagnosing and repairing electrical system malfunctions.
• Testing electrical equipment for safety and efficiency.
• Installing fixtures, motors and electrical equipment.
• Inspecting circuits and wiring.
• Rewiring systems.
• Plans, lays out and wires new installations; measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles and installs electrical conduit; etc.
• The incumbent will also plan or modify installations consistent with specifications and electrical codes.
• As assigned, the incumbent will supervise and instruct others in the repair, maintenance and installation of electrical systems and equipment.
• Maintain underground and overhead wires, install circuit breakers, install new electric wiring, pull and rehab pumps, wire sewer lift stations, and act as a troubleshooter on all aspects of the electric system.
• Perform other semi-skilled tradework and repairs as assigned.
• Work effectively in a team setting and demonstrate flexibility in tasks and schedules.
• Follow instructions, including written direction, accurately and efficiently.
• Communicate effectively with other staff and park patrons in a responsible and courteous manner under stressful conditions.
• Although the work is periodically inspected by the supervisor, the incumbents are expected to work with considerable independence as is typical of a journey level craftsperson.
• Adhere to the agency’s Code of Conduct Policy and ensure compliance with all guidelines, policies, and procedures in the performance of daily tasks.
Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience** in the electrical trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program, OR an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in the electrical trade at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services; OR successful completion of the two-year Trades Specialist (Electrician) traineeship or a two-year electrician training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program* such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship and Certificate Program.
*Successful completion of the traineeship and the training program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific class room instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work. Course work must be completed with an average of “C” or better. Additionally, successful completion of the traineeship also includes 4,000 hours of on-the-job training.

Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Possession of a Class A, B, or C commercial driver’s license may be required for some positions. If required, this position will be subject to the provisions of the OTETA Act (1991), see below.**
• Must be able to operate a bucket truck and work at heights off both ladders and bucket trucks.
• Must have a working knowledge of:
o Electrical theory as applied to the electrical trades, practices and techniques.
o The mathematics of the electrical trade.
o Applicable standards and electrical code regulations.
o The principles and basic knowledge of electronic theory and practice .
o Reading and interpreting circuit diagrams, architectural blueprints and generator and motor control diagrams, and using the tools, equipment and materials of the electrical trade.
• Should the need arise, the incumbent will be expected to return to work after their shift to deal with emergencies in the park.
• Must have the ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor.
** Under the provisions of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (1991), this position has been designated Safety Sensitive. The candidate is required to participate in pre-employment, random and post-accident drug and alcohol testing.

The hiring rate listed combines the statutory hiring rate for CSEA Grade 12 ($48,956) with the Downstate Adjustment ($1,650). Similarly, the job rate posted is a combination of the statutory job rate ($59,757) and the Downstate Adjustment ($1,650).
