Duties Description POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Training Specialist 2 will assist the Associate Director of Training with ensuring the quality of new employees as well as maintenance of the skills of currently employed staff to help ensure the health and safety of the individuals the organization serves. In this duty, they will plan, organize, and oversee a comprehensive education and training program for OPWDDs NYC employees. The incumbent will work with local and state operations and regional office leadership to coordinate training efforts to ensure employees remain in compliance with regulatory requirements. The Training Specialist 2 will also assist with New Employee Orientation, including tracking the progress of probationary employee. This is done through a combination of monitoring evaluation reports, counseling memos, and attending a monthly council that tracks the progress of new direct care employees and addresses concerns that may hinder the completion of the probationary period.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

The incumbent will provide mandatory training for Metro DDSO-Region 5 and 6

• Plan, coordinate, and conduct trainings for Staten Island DDSO and NYC/Long Island staff as needed. This may include travel to the 5 boroughs and Long Island as needed.

• Plan, coordinate, and conduct New Employee Orientation as needed.

• Attain certification as a CPR instructor in a nationally accredited agency.

• Attain certification in PROMOTE training through OPWDDs PROMOTE Training Program

• Participate as a member of the Traineeship Council and / or other committees.

• Serve as a member of Traineeship Program – manage program and facilitate meetings as well as provide support to managers in service delivery.

• Oversee progression of DSATs by reviewing evaluation reports.

• Provide training and establish/maintain instructor compliance in required trainings (PROMOTE & CPR/FA/AED).

• Work with ITS managers and Central Office Training staff to use technology effectively to deliver programs in a 24/7 organizational environment across large geographic catchment area.

• Serve as an instructor during New Employee Orientation for various relevant subject matter.

• Ensure Adherence to the Code of Conduct/Competencies.

• Monitor staff compliance with the Statewide Learning Management System

• Conduct supervisory training.

• Assist staff in completion of mandatory online trainings as requested.

• Inform and assist employees with available educational and training opportunities.

• May require overnight travel to other districts to attain certifications and assist OPWDD statewide as needed.

• Maintains records/rosters of all training activities.

• Support Voluntary Agencies through DDRO as needed.

• Communicate with State Operations managers, including DDSOO Directors, managers of Safety, Business Office, DDRO, HRMO and ITS to find effective local implementation strategies for GOER, OPWDD and Federal statewide initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications • Candidates must have permanent service as a Training Specialist 2, be eligible for transfer to a Training Specialist 2 title, or reachable on the current Civil Service List for Training Specialist 2-MH.

• Provisional appointment pending exam may be considered. You must take and pass a Civil Service Examination to be considered for this position. For provisional appointment qualifications you must have: One year permanent service as a Mental Hygiene Staff Development Specialist 3, Mental Hygiene Staff Development Specialist 3 (Nursing), Training Specialist 1, Training Specialist 1 (Mental Hygiene) or Training Specialist 1 (Nursing).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Candidate should possess excellent communication skills, be organized and have experience in public speaking. Active trainer status is preferred.
