Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive service as an Associate Auditor OR one year of permanent competitive service in a title eligible for transfer under §70.1 of the Civil Service Law OR be reachable on the civil service eligible list.

Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Audit Services is seeking applicants for the position of Associate Internal Auditor. The Office of Audit Services administers both the internal and external audit functions in NYSED. Under the supervision of a Principal Internal Auditor, the incumbent of this position will function as the auditor-in-charge of audit assignments and will be responsible for the day-to-day activities involved in conducting an audit. Filling of this position is contingent upon Division of Budget approval. Duties of this position will include, but not be limited to, the following:
• Oversee the audit process, including survey, fieldwork and reporting;
• Prepare specific audit plans indicating the scope of the audit, audit objectives, staffing requirements and estimated time required for the audit;
• Prepare detailed audit programs showing how the audit plan will be accomplished and assigning staff to perform segments of the program;
• Advise the audit team of potential audit risks and techniques and approaches to be used during the audit;
• Conduct opening conferences with auditee’s representatives to describe the nature of the audits that will be conducted and to establish the audit protocols;
• Perform audits based on approved audit plans and programs;
• Assign staff to specific audit tasks and providing appropriate supervision and training to audit staff;
• Meet with representatives of the auditee to summarize audit findings;
• Review audit papers and reports for accuracy, completeness and compliance with audit plans and programs;
• Notify the Audit Manager in a timely manner of audit progress;
• Prepare audit reports, with findings and recommendations, for supervisory review;
• Carry out many of the same audit activities as the Senior Auditor on an as needed basis;
• Work with NYSED’s Internal Control Officer to carry out the responsibilities of maintaining a system of internal controls; and
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent contingent appointment. May require some travel within NYSED’s office locations.
*Salary leads to $79,003 through annual performance advances.
