Duties Description Under the general supervision of a Supervising Safety and Health Inspector or an Associate Industrial Hygienist, the incumbent will schedule and conduct safety and health inspections to determine compliance with established standards and regulations.

Reassignment Qualifications:
Current Department of Labor employees only, with at least one year of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55b/c service in a Senior Safety & Health Inspector; if you have less than one year, you must be reachable on the current Senior Safety & Health Inspector eligible list for this location, if one exists.
52.7 Non-Competitive Promotion (NCP) Qualifications:
To be eligible for NCP, candidates must be in the Department of Labor promotion field and have one year or more of permanent, contingent-permanent or 55 b/c service as a Safety & Health Inspector. If 3 or fewer qualified Department of Labor Safety & Health Inspectors respond to this posting, Civil Service may approve the permanent appointment of one of the qualified Safety & Health Inspector without further examination.
Note: Non-competitive refers to not competing in an examination; the appointment will be competitive.
70.1 Transfer Qualifications:
One year of permanent or contingent-permanent as a Grade 16 or higher determined to be similar by Civil Service.

Provisional Qualifications:
NYS Department of Labor Employees Only
Candidates must have one year of permanent, contingent permanent, or 55b/c service as a Safety & Health Inspector. The appointed candidate would have to take, pass and be reachable on the next holding of the examination to be appointed permanently.

Additionally, in accordance with Civil Service Law, provisional service immediately prior to a permanent appointment to this title is now credited towards the completion of probation upon permanent appointment.
Additional Comments A medical examination will be required prior to appointment, and you are responsible for payment of the clinical laboratory test fee. Appointees to this position may be required to undergo periodic medical examinations to reassess their ability to perform the essential duties of the position.
This position may require a fingerprint background check prior to appointment.
Position specific job duties may include occasional altered work schedule or job assignments which require availability and willingness to work occasional evenings and/or out-stationed assignments.
Candidates with no previous state service will begin at the starting rate of the salary range listed above.

As this position requires travel, the appointee must have a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State and have a motor vehicle or otherwise demonstrate their capacity to meet the transportation needs of the position.
