Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: For permanent appointment, qualified candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Associate in Professional Education OR be reachable on the eligible list for Associate in Professional Education. If there are fewer than 3 acceptors on the eligible list, a provisional appointment may be considered. For provisional appointment, qualified candidates must be a qualified employee of the NYSED and have one year permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Assistant in Professional Education OR have a master’s degree and five years** of professional level administrative or educational experience in a college, university, education agency, or professional association; professional level administrative or educational experience in an agency or organization having oversight, regulatory, or coordinative responsibility for higher or professional education; or professional, administrative, or educational experience in the credentialing or discipline of professional licensees.

**Three years of this experience must have been related to the regulation of licensed professionals in such areas as training; testing or supervising professionals; or to the development, review, evaluation, or offering of professional education programs.

Duties Description The New York State Education Department (NYSED) anticipates filling an Associate in Professional Education position in the Division of Professional Education. Under the direction of the Supervisor of Professional Education Programs, the duties of this position will include, but not be limited to, the following:
• Evaluating proposals for new professional education programs for changes to existing programs and compliance with applicable sections of the Education Law, Regents Rules and Regulations, and the Commissioner’s Rules and Regulations;
• Conducting all necessary activities resulting from proposals requiring amendments by the Board of Regents to an institution’s charter, certificates of incorporation, or master plan;
• Conducting program registration reviews and site visits to postsecondary institutions in connection with professional programs;
• Performing in-depth reviews of professional education program materials from institutions and/or programs that have been determined “at-risk”, and preparing reports of findings and recommendations;
• Communicating with NYSED personnel, institutional and systems representatives, students, legislators, and other parties as appropriate and necessary;
• Handling complaints from faculty and students related to professional education programs; and
• Performing special assignments as requested.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent or provisional appointment. Filling of this position is contingent upon Division of the Budget approval.

*Leads to a maximum salary of $97,632 based on annual performance advances.
