Minimum Qualifications MIMIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Qualified candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or non-competitive 55b/c service as a Social Work Assistant 2 OR have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a title SG-12 or above deemed eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law OR be reachable on the eligible list for Social Work Assistant 2.

Duties Description The New York State Education Department (NYSED) anticipates filling a Social Work Assistant 2 position in the Office of the Professions’ (OP) Professional Assistance Program (PAP). OP assists the Board of Regents and NYSED in the educational review of licensure for applicants in the 50 professions governed under Title 8 of Education Law. Under the supervision of a Licensed Master Social Worker 2, the incumbent will perform duties that will include, but not be limited to, the following:
• Collecting, synthesizing, validating, and documenting participant’s addictions recovery and/or treatment data in a thorough, professional manner from a variety of sources including the participant, treatment providers, past records, and psychosocial and/or chemical evaluations;
• Identifying changes in the participant’s recovery status and documenting outcomes that are measurable, realistic, and therapeutically sound;
• Providing case management input to the Committee for Professional Assistance on each individual participant in collaboration with the participants’ significant others;
• Giving instructions for panel meetings, communicating and ensuring that priority case management needs are included, applying appropriate effective interventions, and making recommendations;
• Employing and documenting counseling interventions which include, but are not limited to, communication, interviewing techniques, problem solving skills, and necessary immediate interventions;
• Assisting participants to modify unhealthy behaviors;
• Negotiating health-related services and more specialized care as needed with the appropriate agencies and providers, and maintaining relationships with providers to ensure continuity of care;
• Performing case management duties, performance improvement activities, and initiatives of the Department in accordance with the Office of the Professions’ regulations and policies and the Department’s mission; and
• Traveling to the PAP’s other sites to hold hearings for licensees within the State on an average of 2 to 3 times per month, including some overnights.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent contingent appointment. Filling of this position is contingent upon Division of the Budget approval.

*Leads to a maximum salary of $53,606 based on annual performance advances.
