Duties Description As a Pharmacy Consultant, the incumbent will participate in compliance of Nursing Homes throughout the Metropolitan Region. In this capacity, the incumbent will provide supervision of a multidisciplinary team during the onsite inspection process; review Statements of Deficiencies; survey work tools; surveyor notes and support documentation; review facility-developed Plans of Corrections; case summaries; participate on post survey revisits; assist in training related to topics such as medication storage; medication pass observations; pharmacy services; the use of chemical restraints; and unnecessary medications. Additionally, the incumbent will lend expertise to provide pharmacological consultation relating to medication and public health concerns to Center of Residential Surveillance team. Further, as part of a larger team, the incumbent will support larger Department initiatives by supporting emergency management activities and performing other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Permanent Transfer Candidates: Current NYS employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent-permanent competitive service as a Pharmacy Consultant, G25.
Open-competitive via NY HELPS: A license and current registration to practice pharmacy in New York State, and two years of post-licensure experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in public health programs and/or healthcare project management. Administrative and program experience, including but not limited to: interpretation of Federal and State guidance for program staff, developing guidance, program policy and other documents, and preparing reports and correspondence. Experience reviewing how medications are stored, administered, and ordered, and how controlled medications are reconciled. In addition to reviewing for adverse effects and side effects of medication. Ability to formulate program recommendations based upon data analysis. Experience providing clinical expertise to others on pharmacological and public health concerns involving vaccinations and other medication related matters, as well as, written and verbal communication, and development and delivery of presentations, trainings, and reports are preferred. Federal Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test certification.
Additional Comments This position requires significant travel throughout New York State to areas that may not be served by public transportation. This position may also require occasional overnight travel. Federal Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Training Certification is required within one year of the date of employment.
$4,000 Downstate Pay adjustment.
This position is part of the NYS HELPS program. No examination is required.
