Duties Description The EET1 will assist in data analyses regarding weather forecasting and air quality forecasting for fine particulate matter (year-round) and ozone (April-September). The selected candidate will work with Air Pollution Meteorologists in the Impact Assessment and Meteorology (IAM) Section to help with the review of air quality modeling analyses submitted as part of the permitting process. Under the technical supervision and guidance of IAM Section staff, the EET1 will be participating in the following tasks:

•Provide air quality forecasting support
•Take on weather forecasting responsibilities
•Organize and process meteorological and air pollution data sets
•Prepare statistical analysis on verification and forecast data
•Assist in the review of air quality impact assessments and provide support for permit application reviews
•Assist dispersion modelers with data entry and simple maps of model inputs and outputs

Preference will be given to candidates with an undergraduate degree or relevant course work in the physical sciences (meteorology, atmospheric sciences, environmental engineering, environmental sciences or studies, and physics).

Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Either 1. Completion of at least 18 semester credit hours in any combination of the following courses: engineering, such as civil, chemical, electrical, mechanical, aeronautical and/or sanitary; public health; environmental and/or engineering technology; drafting; mathematics; surveying; computer science; environmental science; and/or the natural and physical sciences;

Or 2. Graduation from a high school technical education program in technical aeronautics, technical architectural drafting and building construction, technical chemistry, industrial chemistry, technical electricity/electronics, technical mechanical design and construction, technical structural drafting and design or technical instrumentation and control systems, computer circuitry;

Or 3. Four years of experience performing engineering technician work in aeronautical, chemical, civil, electrical, environmental, mechanical or sanitary engineering technology; or environmental technology; or as a surveyor or drafter.

Essential Functions:

•Good written and oral communication skills
•Possess working knowledge of principles and practices of weather analysis and forecasting
•Able to travel to meetings and outside conferences as required
•Capable of dealing effectively with the public, government and other outside entities

Open-Competitive:

Four years of experience in technician work in aeronautical, chemical, civil, electrical, environmental, mechanical, or sanitary engineering technology; environmental technology; geology or geology technology; or as a surveyor or a drafter;

OR graduation from high school and one year of qualifying experience;

OR graduation from a high school technical education program in aeronautics, architectural drafting, chemistry, electricity, electronics, mechanical design and construction, technical structural drafting and design, technical instrumentation and control systems, or computer circuitry;

OR 18 college semester credit hours in any combination of the following: engineering, geology, environmental science, natural or physical science, drafting, mathematics, or surveying.

Additional Comments This is a hourly appointment currently funded through 3/31/2026, with a likelihood of continuing beyond that date. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.
