Duties Description New York State Senator Cordell Cleare is seeking applicants to fill the position of Community Affairs Liaison in her District Office in New York City. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals with a passion for public service and for helping others.
This dynamic role will include the following responsibilities:
•Collecting and maintaining an internal database of constituents
•Drafting, writing, and printing various awards, including but not limited to, proclamations, certificates, commendation awards, empire awards, etc.
•Maintaining community relations with various organizations, such as YMCA, Boys & Girls Clubs, Lions Club, Boy Scouts, Girl Schools, each school in the district, every fire district/department, police departments, community boards etc.
•Coordinating various events for the Office, including but not limited to events to hand out awards/recognition, and staffing such events as necessary (both after work hours and on weekends)
•Conducting advance work (visiting location, setting up, corresponding with appropriate entities) for any events (both after work hours and on weekends)
•Staffing the Senator at events, taking photos as necessary, and ensuring all information is brought back to the team
•Representing the Senator at events and speaking on the Senator’s behalf, including but not limited to, award events or mobile office hours, when she is unable to attend
•Coordinating our own events with the Office’s events team and assisting with clerical tasks including printing materials, putting together award booklets and brochures, etc., as necessary
•Writing and drafting additional correspondence for the office, as necessary
•Updating bluebird database with contact from the office, as necessary
Minimum Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess the following competencies:
•Excellent oral and written communication skills
•Proven history of building relationships
•Strong empathy and listening skills
•Ability to problem-solve
•Must be able to work flexible hours, including extensive nights and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications:
•Bachelor's degree
•Proficiency in Spanish or French
•Familiarity with Harlem or demonstrated experience working in similar communities
•Knowledge of New York State government or the legislative process
This position will require a flexible work schedule including occasional nights and weekends when after-hours event attendance is required
Additional Comments Salary range is $45,000 to $55,000, commensurate with education and experience.
