Duties Description • Perform engineering duties related to a group of electrical systems projects.
• Advise on electrical systems design or management of ongoing rehabilitation of existing electrical equipment.
• Assist a higher-level professional engineer overseeing subcontractors or development of electrical specifications writing and estimates of work.
• Evaluation operations problems in existing electrical systems.
• May supervise consultant work.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Some travel may be required.
Operational Needs:
• Travel may be required (approximately 20%).
• Possession and maintenance of a valid Driver’s License issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicle is required.
Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS)* and applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications to be considered for this position:
Proof of passing the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) AND a qualifying bachelor's degree or higher as listed below; OR proof of passing the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) AND one year of full-time qualifying engineering experience as listed below.
Qualifying degrees: Computer Engineering, Computer Engineering Technology, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electrical Power Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electronics Engineering Technology, or Engineering Science with a recognized concentration in any of the above listed engineering degrees.
Qualifying experience: One year of full-time engineering experience in electrical systems.
This title includes a traineeship opportunity, and applicants must meet one of the following:
A bachelor's degree or higher in engineering or engineering technology (listed above).
OR
Proof of passing the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) AND one year of full-time engineering experience (listed above).
OR
Current New York State employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service in a position allocated to a Grade 18 or above and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. NOTE: IN ORDER TO AWARD THE PROPER CREDIT FOR WORK EXPERIENCE, RESUMES MUST INCLUDE MONTH AND YEAR FOR START AND END DATES. IF ANY OF THIS EXPERIENCE IS LESS THAN FULL TIME YOU MUST INDICATE THE AVERAGE NUMBER OF HOURS WORKED PER WEEK.

The Office of the General Services (OGS) supports telecommuting where it is reasonable to do so based upon the agency’s mission and operational needs. Generally, employees new to OGS Design and Construction (D&C) will be restricted from telecommuting for at least 8 calendar weeks. After the initial 8 calendar week restriction, if an employee’s duties and work performance are aligned with telecommuting they may be allowed to do so. Upon approval to telecommute, OGS D&C employees may telecommute up to 4 days per pay period. This position is graded and offers a salary range from the hiring rate to the job rate for its designated grade. All hires begin at “Start Rate” unless prior state experience affords eligibility for hiring step increase as determined by OSC.

Geographic pay differential added to hiring salary = $7,000
