Duties Description - Adherence to NYSDOT safety requirements and guidelines during field surveying operations.
- Professional working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and management.
- Setting up and safe operation of survey equipment required to collect data during terrain, boundary, GPS, and survey control fieldwork.
- Inspection and basic maintenance of survey field equipment.
- Prepare field sketches of survey control points and other information that may be requested by designers.
- Ability to understand documents such as record plans, acquisition maps, and public records that may be required during fieldwork.
- Compile and review survey control CAD drawings.
- Import field survey data required for office processing of terrain, boundary, and control surveys.
- Compile and check survey report books to be filed in the Survey Unit.
- Ability to walk over uneven terrain and carry weight of up to 50 pounds.
Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).*
To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS, or 55 b/c, candidates must meet the open-competitive minimum qualifications for this position.
The qualifications are:
Promotion: One year of permanent competitive service in a clerical or technical position.
Open Competitive: Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma or a USAFI GED certificate (high school level). Applicants may substitute a satisfactory combination of education and/or experience assisting in engineering or related work, at the rate of six months of experience for one year of high school
Candidates may also be qualified for permanent competitive appointment if reachable from the appropriate Civil Service eligible list or eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.
Additional Comments *For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
At a future date, it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in an NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
