Minimum Qualifications This is a transfer opportunity for current New York State employees only who are eligible to transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law - Candidates must have permanent status in a title approved for transfer by Civil Service within two salary grades of the Grade 6 level.

The Beginning Clerical Worker Eligible List is also used to fill this title. If you are on this list, you may receive a canvass letter.

Candidates who have not previously served in a keyboarding title must demonstrate adequate keyboarding skills (i.e. the ability to type 35 words per minute with at least 96% accuracy) by passing the Keyboard Specialist performance test.

Duties Description 18 month Traineeship leading to a SG 9.

• Produce a variety of legal work, predominantly appellate briefs, answers, proposed orders and judgments, notices of entry, motion papers, etc.
• Make corrections to legal documents.
• Verify citations and other legal references
• Confer with document originator to establish contents of document.
• Edit legal work to comply with court rules and regulations.
• Maintain dockets and/or other filing systems (e.g. Silvercase).
• Open and close legal case files (sorting/organizing files, making appropriate docketing entries, and creating records for archive system).
• Answer, screen, forward calls on case-related matters.
• Cover reception desk, as needed.
• Assist with typing tables/covers for records, assembling records, and other misc. typing, as needed.
• Provide backup to mail run to post office and/or court runs.
• Perform general office duties as assigned, such as phone duties, routine correspondence, photocopying, faxing, scanning, creating and/or modifying pdf documents, etc.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional Comments Upon successful completion of 12 months as Law Dept Document Specialist Trainee 1, you will automatically advance to Law Dept Document Specialist Trainee 2. (SG 8)

Upon successful completion of 6 months as Law Dept Document Specialist Trainee 2, you will automatically advance to Law Dept Document Specialist. (SG 9)
