Duties Description This Associate Psychologist will provide psychological services directly to individuals and provide support to residential teams. They will provide residential services to the Columbia and Dutchess County Teams in Area 1, carrying a caseload of 45-65 individuals and seeing as many as 4 people for ongoing psychotherapy through the Article 16 Clinic while also performing duties on committees and completing administrative tasks.
The incumbent will implement and monitor behavior support plans and functional behavioral assessments for individuals with challenging behaviors associated with Intellectual Disability/Developmental Disability and psychiatric diagnoses; collect data and summarize for psychiatric consults; complete psychological evaluations as needed. Participate as a member of an interdisciplinary team and attend meetings for individual service plans, case reviews, and residential habilitation. Plans to develop ADL and other self-help skills may also be needed for certain individuals. Develop and present individuals’ cases to various review committees (HRC, ICC) for approval. Participate as a member of the Psychology Department, which includes participating on committees (Risk, HRC), attending monthly meetings and performing special assignments as directed; these assignments include risk assessments, risk management plans, competency evaluations and diminution assessments; perform routine capacity assessments, fire-setting assessments, and measures of adaptive behavior. The Associate Psycholgist will provide individualized services to people who may have challenging behavioral and forensic profiles within a community residential setting. This psychologist will also assist with Article 16 treatment, completing capacity and other assessments, and providing coverage to other psychology staff in Taconic Areas 1, 2, and 3. The incumbent will also assist with Central Office initiatives including PROMOTE integration/ modeling, possible development of CATH homes, as well as discipline-specific projects, including assisting with enhancing utilization of electronic health records, participation in relevant committees and project groups, and other related duties. Disability/Developmental Disability and psychiatric diagnoses, including consulting on and completing functional assessment and behavior planning for some of the most complex and behaviorally involved individuals; collect data and summarize for psychiatric consults; complete psychological evaluations as needed. Minimum Qualifications A doctoral degree in a clinical field of psychology (see notes below); AND
EITHER a one-year, full-time pre-doctoral clinical internship OR one year of psychology experience in a clinical setting, under the supervision of a licensed psychologist. You must demonstrate on your application how you meet this qualification.

Notes:
Non-qualifying degree majors include, but are not limited to the following: education, educational psychology, transpersonal psychology, educational counseling, guidance counseling, experimental psychology, industrial psychology, psychometrics, organizational psychology, student and personnel services, mental health counseling, pastoral psychology, human relations, etc.

Psychology experience in a clinical setting is considered to be any direct care experience with individuals, families, or groups in a hospital, clinic, facility, private practice, or correctional setting under the supervision of a Licensed Psychologist. Qualifying experience must primarily include performing psychological evaluations or assessment tests, psychological diagnostic testing, developing psychological treatment plans, providing psychological counseling and treatment in one or more of the following areas: mental and/or emotional disorders, developmental disabilities, alcoholism, addictions, sex offender assessment and treatment, or forensic mental health.

The following experience is NOT considered qualifying: Experience in administration, administrative services, administrative oversight, training, special education, behavior specialist, habilitation specialist, project management, research, or primarily supervisory experience. Other non-qualifying experience includes, but is not limited to, experience in experimental psychology, research psychology, industrial psychology, organizational psychology, utilization review, guidance counseling, etc.

Additional Comments This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). HELPS Program titles may be filled via a non-competitive appointment. This means that you do not need to take an exam to qualify, but you do need to meet the minimum qualifications of the title.

At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), employees hired under NY HELPS are expected to have their permanent non-competitive employment status converted to permanent competitive status. You will not have to take an exam to gain permanent competitive status.

• If you are currently a New York State employee serving in a permanent competitive qualifying title and eligible for a transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law, you may be appointed to this title as a permanent competitive employee.
