Duties Description Plan and coordinate organized discretionary time activities for incarcerated individuals in the correctional facility. This would include developing and directing a comprehensive recreational program of athletic and non-athletic activities; assessing the interests of the inmates; developing procedures for and monitoring all activities to ensure compliance with established directives; soliciting inmate and community involvement; providing instruction in and officiating at activities; preparing written reports; maintaining records of participants, programs, and equipment; responsibility for issuance and repair of equipment and supplies; conducting tryouts and selecting teams and officials; and coordinating tournaments and other events.
Minimum Qualifications RECREATION PROGRAM LEADER 2/SG-17 (TC: 5909200)
Minimum Qualifications for taking the Promotional Examination: must be a qualified employee of the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Recreation Program Leader 1 or a Recreation Therapist.
Qualifying Experience for Appointment from the Eligible List: After one year of service described in the Minimum Qualifications, successful candidates will be qualified for appointment from the eligible list.
