Duties Description The Office of Victim Services (OVS) is seeking a student assistant for the Legal Unit. The handling of these tasks will help the student gain professional skills while assisting OVS with special projects.
The student intern in the Legal Unit of OVS will assist with duties including, but not limited to:
• Drafting victim notifications, affidavits, and petitions to Son of Sam cases.
• Conducting legal and policy research.
• Researching and drafting materials for public education.
• Supporting responses to disclosure requests, including subpoenas and Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) requests.
• Legislative bill analysis.
Minimum Qualifications Must be a current student enrolled in a matriculating degree program and have completed a minimum of one (1) year as a student at a degree-granting two or four-year college or university.
Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate would possess:
• Current enrollment in Law School.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience and/or interest working with victims/survivors of crime.
• Excellent organization and time-management skills.
• Excellent research skills, which include legal database research.
• Excellent verbal communication and writing skills.
Additional Comments This position may be filled in either Albany, or New York City.
