Duties Description The duties include, but are not limited to:

• Providing supervision, training, coordination and facilitation of the maintenance and repair of fleet vehicles and equipment. The Maintenance Supervisor 2 (Motor Equipment) may supervise one or more Maintenance Supervisor 1 (Motor Equipment), Service & Repair Mechanics (Motor Equipment) and other skilled and semi-skilled maintenance employees.

• Scheduling of Preventative Maintenance and repairs.

• Parts and record keeping support.

• Establishing work priorities and approving repair schedules.

• Reviewing work orders and records.

• May be responsible for performing Preventative Maintenance Audits.

• Identifying effective utilization of staff, equipment and supplies.

• Identifying efficient shop procedures.

• Review reports to ensure that work schedules are achieved.

• Ensure that agency policies and standards are followed.

• Implementing and enforcing safety procedures and standards for shop operations.

• Assist in developing training programs and identifying training needs.

• Prepare periodic written reports.

• Participate in the interview process for parts operations, entry level techs and Maintenance Supervisor 1 (Motor Equipment).

• Assist with the development of the annual purchase plan.

• Performs quality assurance checks and reports to management.

• Ensures Asset Management System data entry is timely and accurate.

• May occasionally make repairs to equipment.

• Employ communication and people skills to interact with the customer base and Fleet Management to determine and schedule PM and repair work as well as to resolve personnel, parts, and equipment issues.

• The Maintenance Supervisor 2 (Motor Equipment) may be assigned as a Shop Supervisor, Field Supervisor, Production Control Supervisor or a combination of these roles and may be rotated alternately into each position over the course of his/her tenure or a combination of the above.

Minimum Qualifications To be considered for permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list or be eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.

If a viable eligible list does not exist, a provisional appointment may be made in accordance with Civil Service Law. Candidates who accept a provisional appointment must take and pass the next Civil Service examination for this title when it is administered. Employees appointed provisionally must be reachable on the resulting eligibility list for that title or their employment in the position will end.

The minimum requirements for taking the examination are 3 months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as follows:

Either A. As a Maintenance Supervisor 1 (Motor Equipment), formerly Motor Equipment Mechanic Maintenance Supervisor 1.

Or B. As a Construction Equipment Mechanic, Motor Equipment Storeskeeper, Construction Equipment Repair Production Coordinator, or as a Service and Repair Mechanic (Motor Equipment) formerly Motor Equipment Mechanic.

In order to qualify for appointment, candidates must have one year of service in the qualifying title listed above. Candidates must also possess a valid New York State Class B Commercial Driver’s License with no air brake restriction and a NYS Motor Vehicle Inspector Certification, Classes 1 and 2, at the time of appointment and continuously thereafter.

Additional Comments Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

The salary range listed reflects the full range for this graded position. For new State employees appointed into graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts. The starting salary for this position is $75,690. This amount is comprised of the base salary of $66,690 with an additional geographic pay differential of $9,000, specific to this title and location.
The maximum compensation for this position is $89,655. This amount is comprised of the standard job rate of $80,655 with an additional geographic pay differential of $9,000, specific to this title and location.
