Duties Description The office of NYS Senator Kristen Gonzalez is seeking a Director of Constituent Services to join our District Office team. Senator Gonzalez represents the 59th District in the New York State Senate which includes parts of three boroughs, Queens, Brooklyn, and Manhattan, and she Chairs two committees, the Committee on Internet and Technology and the Committee on Elections.
The office is seeking a Director of Constituent Services who will oversee constituent service casework for the office, maintain relationships with local leaders and concerned neighbors, and ensure the office is represented in all community meetings and organizing efforts with elected officials and neighborhood groups in order to best serve the needs of our constituents. The role will consist of managing casework, presenting at public meetings, and solving complex projects with many stakeholders and multiple components. The Director of Constituent Services will work with our Legislative Team to identify priority issues for our constituents and potential legislative solutions to frequent district concerns. They will work with our Communications Director to highlight the Senator’s work in the District through newsletters, social media posts, and media opportunities.
The role will have some managerial responsibilities as well as direct casework and community engagement. The ideal candidate will be interested in government operations, passionate about public service, and excited to work on a diverse set of policies and community concerns.
In this dynamic role, you will:
•Oversee every aspect of the constituent services portfolio by reviewing constituent inquiries, assigning casework to staff members, managing individual staff members’ caseload and workflow, and leading on more complex cases.
•Maintain a calendar of community events and recurring meetings that the Senator and staff should attend and ensuring the office is property represented at these meetings. This will require attending some meetings and assigning staff to others while maintaining a shared notes system for relevant updates.
•Create a calendar of outreach events including tabling, rotating office hours, informational sessions from agencies, seasonal celebrations, and manage the planning, outreach, and execution of these events working with the Director of Communications and Strategic Advisor.
•Identifying patterns and recurring cases, developing a strategy to respond to these issues in partnership with the Strategic Advisor and Chief of Staff, and executing on the strategy to successfully resolve neighborhood concerns.
•Understand the policy concerns, legislative interests, and material needs of constituents and ensure our office is working to address the priorities of our community using a data-driven approach to analysis and review.
•Assist with preparing social media posts, newsletters, tabling materials, and external communications with constituents consistent with professional standards and that reflects the work our office is doing.
•Build strong partnerships with community leaders, civic organizations, city/state/federal government offices, and individual constituents to address and solve everyday issues impacting the 59th Senate District.
•Manage interns and junior staff, assisting them with casework, tabling, and ensuring they are prepared for all office responsibilities.
•Staff meetings and events as needed.
•Work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.

•Excellent verbal and written communication skills
•Research and decision-making skills, including the ability to proactively find solutions and work independently and collaborate across a small team
•Demonstrated ability to think and plan strategically, especially in a fast-changing, often high stakes environment
•Comfort/experience with a public-facing position, public speaking, and interacting with members of the public
•Ability to work with basic office computer applications
•Ability to treat confidential information with appropriate discretion
•Ability to manage high volumes of calls and walk-ins
•Capacity to multitask and problem solve independently and with teams
•Comfort with representing the office at community events
•Knowledge of and familiarity with the diverse and urgent needs of a triborough district
•Must live in New York State upon beginning of employment
Bonus points if you:
•Have an MSW and are site certified
•Have speaking and/or writing knowledge of Spanish, Bangla, or Mandarin/Cantonese
•Are familiar with the needs of Northern Brooklyn (Greenpoint & Williamsburg), Western Queens (Long Island City & Astoria), or the east side of Manhattan, (Stuyvesant Town, Peter Cooper Village, Tudor City, Kips Bay, Murray Hill & Gramercy)
Additional Comments The salary range is $65,000 to $75,000 per year, commensurate with education and experience. This is a full-time, overtime-exempt position. This position is hybrid and comes with sick days, vacation days, and personal time, as well as state holidays.
