Duties Description As Chief Safety and Security Officer, you would be responsible for the overall effective and efficient operations of a safety and security operation which includes: supervision of all safety and security personnel; the maintenance of safety equipment and records; and the development, monitoring, and evaluation of all policies and procedures. Such is performed under the guise of all safety, security, and fire protection services involved with the enforcement of all related State, federal, and local laws, rules, and regulations. Incumbents are active in disaster preparedness and emergency planning within their respective State facilities. Chief Safety and Security Officers directly supervise Safety and Security Officers 2 and through them subordinate staff. Chief Safety and Security Officers review and approve schedules and assignments prepared by Safety and Security Officers 2. They review narrative, tabular, and special investigatory reports prepared by subordinates and periodically accompany Safety and Security Officers 1 on patrol to directly observe their performance.
Minimum Qualifications Candidates must be reachable for appointment on the current Civil Service eligible list for the title;

Transfer Opportunity: One year of permanent competitive or 55-b/c service as a Chief Safety and Security Officer.
Provisional Opportunity: New York State employees who meet the following promotion qualifications may be provisionally appointed:
Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/c service as a Safety and Security Officer 2.
Candidates appointed provisionally must take the next scheduled Civil Service examination for this title and their score must be reachable on the resulting eligible list before they can be permanently appointed. Candidates who do not pass the examination or achieve a reachable score may not be retained.
License Requirements: At the time of appointment and as a condition for continued employment, you must possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State. Conditional licenses are not acceptable.
Peace Officer Requirements: Safety and Security Officers have peace officer status as authorized under Criminal Procedure Law Section 2.10 and Sections 7.25 and 13.25 of Mental Hygiene Law or Section 455 of Public Health Law. As such, they must meet the requirements for appointment to public office defined in Public Officers Law Section 3 (1) and for continued employment as required in Section 30.
In order to be eligible for appointment and to maintain employment, you cannot be listed as an excluded individual or entity on any of the Federal and/or State Medicaid and Medicare exclusion lists (or excluded from any other Federal or Federally assisted program). If you are appointed and subsequently listed as an excluded individual or entity on any of these lists (or excluded from any other Federal or federally assisted program), you may be terminated from your employment.
