Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED’s) Office of Education Policy (OEP) is seeking candidates for an Administrative Specialist 2, G-23, position. The OEP is led by the Senior Deputy Commissioner for Education Policy and includes the following offices: Cultural Education, Higher Education, P-12 Instructional Support, P-12 Operational Support, Special Education and ACCES, Performance Improvement and Management Services, and Chief Financial Officer. Under the direction of the Assistant Commissioner of the OEP, duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
• Provide administrative support for the Senior Deputy Commissioner for Education Policy, including overseeing office operations and scheduling meetings;
• Support the administrative staff within the offices under the OEP by orienting, training, and regularly meeting with administrative staff and answering questions as issues arise;
• Develop administrative procedures, processes, and policies for OEP offices in consultation with the Assistant Commissioner and write and update documents summarizing them to ensure consistent implementation of efficient and effective operations across offices;
• Manage administrative activities related to the BOCES District Superintendents, including the agendas for monthly meetings with the Commissioner and Senior Deputy Commissioner, search and hiring process, contracts, and FOIL requests;
• Facilitate the approval of monthly Board of Regents items and slide decks by proofreading them, securing the required approvals, and following-up with offices on late items/slide decks;
• Respond to phone calls and emails from the public, stakeholders, and within the Department to answer questions, provide assistance, clarify policies and procedures, and direct emails via the TRIM system to the appropriate office;
• Manage the weekly communications to state school leaders, review and prepare communications from OEP, and solicit and compile talking points from managers and staff for stakeholder meetings and maintain the database of talking points; and
• Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Reassignment: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Administrative Specialist 2.
Eligible List Appointment: Candidates must be reachable on the Civil Service eligible list for this title. If you are on the Civil Service eligible list for this title, you may receive a canvass letter. You must complete and return it as instructed on the letter.
Section 52.6 Transfer: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a title allocated SG-21 or higher eligible to transfer under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This will be a permanent appointment or permanent noncompetitive appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. This position allows for the opportunity to telecommute up to 30% each bi-weekly pay period and is granted at the discretion of the supervisor and the appointing office. Federal law may impose additional requirements or restrictions regarding positions that receive federal funding.
This position leads to a maximum salary of $109,650 based on annual performance Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts.
