Duties Description This position is based in OPRHP’s central Albany office and will work closely with sustainability staff. The Sustainability Program Assistant will primarily develop and maintain materials related to green purchasing. Responsibilities include navigating NYS green purchasing specifications and locating compliant products across various sources. The incumbent will also support the bureau in developing and implementing various sustainability programs at OPRHP. Work may fall within the following areas:

• Waste handling & reporting
• Refrigerant management
• Single use plastic elimination
• Reduced mowing
• Hydration stations

Job Duties:

Green Purchasing Development and Implementation: Create and gather green purchasing related documents, guidance, and materials.

• Generate and maintain comprehensive data on products that fulfill Green NY procurement specifications, including single use plastic alternatives, green cleaning products, and more.
• Assist in ensuring compliance with state regulations and guidelines related to procurement.
• Regularly assemble findings in an organized, presentable format.

Program Coordination: o Collaborate with the Sustainable Operations unit and other bureaus to develop and implement green purchasing and broader sustainability programs across the agency.
• Provide advice and support to facility managers and regional staff to aid the implementation of sustainability programs.
• Develop educational resources to promote green purchasing tools.

Monitoring and Evaluation: Assist in monitoring the effectiveness of sustainability programs and initiatives.
• Prepare reports and presentations on sustainability metrics and projects for internal and external stakeholders.
• Maintain and regularly review green purchasing databases, contracts, and preferred source offerings.

Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
No minimum qualifications per Civil Service.

Additional Comments PREFERRED QUALIFICATION:
• Related coursework, fieldwork, or professional experience with New York State purchasing law, contracts, and/or procurement specifications.
• Familiar with standard certifications for various ‘green’ products, such as ASTM, BPI, Green Seal, UL ECOLOGO, and ENERGY STAR.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point).
