Duties Description The Central Investigation Unit (CIU) has the responsibility of reviewing every claim of labor law violation, submitted to and under the purview of the Division of Labor Standards, for workers that have worked in NYS. The CIU staff reviews incoming claims and accept, reject, or recommend that claims be referred to another legal avenue for redress. If accepted by NYSDOL, CIU dockets a case and within 48 hours a letter is mailed to the employer, which is the start of most Labor Standards investigations. Learn the claim to case process; how claims are reviewed, developed into cases, and distributed to our district offices around the State for investigations. Use of various systems: internet, Worker Protection Case Management System, shared folders, and mailboxes.
