Duties Description Reporting to a Supervising Labor Services Representative within the Rapid Response Unit, the Rapid Response Intern will assist in providing immediate support to workers impacted by mass layoffs or plant closures. This internship will offer hands-on experience in workforce development, case management, and community outreach, while gaining valuable insights into the challenges faced by displaced workers and the strategies employed to facilitate their rapid re-employment.
As a member of the Business Engagement Bureau the intern will also be exposed to the Department’s business engagement strategies. The intern will be presented with the opportunity to work alongside our Business Services staff who promote NYSDOL’s no cost recruitment assistance services such as the Virtual Career Center, Career Fairs, The NYS Job Bank, and Tax Incentives.
Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Be 18 years of age or older
• Be actively enrolled in a New York State college, university, or graduate program, or be a resident of New York State, attending a college, university or graduate program outside of New York State*
• Have completed a minimum of one (1) year as a student at a degree-granting two or four-year college or university (completion of one year's worth of academic credits over a longer period may qualify part-time students for participation in the program), or be a currently enrolled graduate student or accepted in a graduate degree program
• Have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0, or the letter grade equivalent
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
• Education: Rising junior or senior pursuing a degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Business Administration, Public Policy, or a related field focused on workforce development.
• Strong interest in workforce development, career counseling, and job search assistance.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced skills in MS Excel and PowerPoint.
