Duties Description Under direct supervision, Facility Operations Assistant 1 assist skilled and semiskilled trades positions by performing a variety of relatively unskilled tasks while learning a trade. Position involves the more routine repetitive tasks in the repair, maintenance and servicing of refrigeration and air conditioning systems and their related components. Facility Operations Assistant 1 assignments occur throughout all trades and tasks could include but are not limited to: assisting skilled and semiskilled trades positions in refrigeration, carpentry, plumbing, painting and/or electrical duties such as but not limited to: general building maintenance repair/replacement/modification of facilities typically associated with building maintenance like snow removal, unplugging clogged drains, use of hand tools, change light bulbs, window washing, other cleaning activities as assigned. It could include building and structure maintenance and construction, use of power equipment; cleaning shop or after repair work. Maintenance helpers may operate trucks and light construction equipment and may become involved in snow removal. This individual must develop computer skills to operate the departments facilities management system (MAXIMO) and KRONOS time management system as implemented on their level in their area.

Minimum Qualifications There are no education or experience requirements for this class, however please see special information. Applicants must be physically able to perform moderate to heavy labor. When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must be licensed to operate a motor vehicle in New York State and possess the license classification appropriate for the type of vehicle operated. Applicant must meet the following job requirements:
• Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
• Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools, machines and equipment used in the maintenance and servicing of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment.
• Ability to perform moderate to heavy manual labor.
• Ability to lift, stoop, and bend for long periods of time.
• Applicant must possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State.

Additional Comments The initial assignment for this position is in the Refrigeration Shop from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. shift. Position works Monday through Friday with Saturday and Sunday as pass days. Previous relevant experience will be helpful. Prior working knowledge in the refrigeration trade is preferred. The preferred candidate would already possess the core portion of an EPA Refrigeration Certification. Candidates must possess, or be able to acquire, an EPA Universal Refrigeration Certification within the probation period and continuing education in refrigeration trade will be required.

The successful candidate for this position must be able to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position satisfactorily. Since the nature of the campus requires continuous service & emergencies may arise during other than normal work hours, employee in this position will be required to provide a home telephone number & be willing to accept emergency call-ins & overtime work when necessary. Since the activities of other employees depend upon the performance of the employee in this position, reliable attendance is a factor that the employer will consider when filling this vacancy.
