Duties Description • The Environmental Stewardship Technician will assist the Niagara Region Environmental Stewardship team with a variety of projects related to invasive species management, habitat restoration, and stewardship of natural resources with 20+ parks in the Niagara Region.
• The position is based in DeVeaux Woods State Park, Niagara Falls; however, projects and duties will be in parks throughout the Niagara Region (Erie and Niagara Counties). An OPRHP vehicle will be provided to travel to various parks.
• Main job duty involves surveying and mapping of priority invasive species at multiple parks using ArcGIS FieldMaps technology.
• Additional job duties may include the removal of invasive species alongside other staff members as part of habitat restoration projects.
• Monitoring and data collection of biocontrol agents for Emeral Ash
Borer (EAB).
Minimum Qualifications There are no minimum qualifications per Civil Service.
Additional Comments Preferred Qualifications:
• A degree or working towards a degree in environmental sciences, biology, forestry, natural resource stewardship, geoscience, and others.
• Experience with invasive plant identification preferred but not necessary.
• Experience with GIS systems, a variety of hand tools, and map reading preferred but not necessary.
Operational Needs:
• Must possess and maintain a valid NYS driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Candidates must be comfortable doing manual labor & working outside in a variety of weather conditions.
• Candidates must be detail-oriented, self-motivated, able to initiate projects and tasks, have good time management and organizational skills, and effectively work with others.
