Duties Description Under the general direction of an Investigative Specialist 4 (Labor Standards) or other higher-level staff, The Investigative Specialist 3 (Labor Standards) will:
• Responsible for the supervision of a district office(s) or unit(s).
• Determines investigative priorities and monitor staff assignments.
• Monitors and prepares reports detailing unit activities, completion of goals, compliance with standards, balances workload, completes personnel requirements; evaluates the training needs of the unit.
• Oversees and directs complex cases, provides technical expertise, and handles special projects related to implementation of program goals.
• Establishes and implements unit procedures and protocols in accordance with Division and Agency objectives.
• Reviews new directives, procedures, and policies to determine the effect on program operations and makes any necessary adjustments to implement them.
Minimum Qualifications As this position requires travel, the appointee must have a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State and have a motor vehicle or otherwise demonstrate their capacity to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Subsequent 55 B/C Qualifications:
A subsequent 55b/c appointment may be considered if you have one year of permanent or contingent-permanent service in an Investigative Specialist 3 (Labor Standards) and have a current Civil Service 55b/c approval letter.
Reassignment Qualifications:
Current Department of Labor employees only, with at least one year of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55b/c service in an Investigative Specialist 3 (Labor Standards) ; if you have less than one year, you must be reachable on the current Investigative Specialist 3 (Labor Standards) eligible list for this location, if one exists.
70.1 Transfer Qualifications:
One year of permanent or contingent-permanent as a Grade 23 or higher determined to be similar by Civil Service.
Provisional Qualifications: DOL Employees only.
Candidates being considered for Provisional appointment must show they signed up for the Investigative Specialist 3 (Labor Standards) Civil Service Exam which is being held on Saturday, April 18th, 2026. In order to remain in your position, candidates will have to have passed the exam and be reachable to be appointed permanently.
You must be a qualified employee of the New York State Department of Labor and have 1 year of permanent competitive, non-competitive NY HELPS*, or 55-b/55-c service in Investigative Specialist 2 (Labor Standards), Investigative Specialist 2 (Labor Standards) (Spanish Language), or Investigative Specialist 2 (Labor Standards) (Chinese Language).

Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to initiate and maintain relationships across a diverse set of stakeholders.
Additional Comments This position may require a fingerprint background check prior to appointment.
Position specific job duties may include occasional altered work schedule or job assignments which require availability and willingness to work occasional evenings and/or out-stationed assignments.

Employees will be required to travel, multiple days/nights, for training purposes, not to exceed one week at a time.
