Duties Description Under the supervision of the Director, this Park Worker 3 would be a multi-faceted employee acting as both a Shift Supervisor and as Lead Maintenance worker for the Jones Beach Energy and Nature Center.
Duties include:
• Performs various grounds maintenance and gardening tasks to help maintain the pollinator garden and Jones Beach State Park Preserve Area trails.
• Performs janitorial services including clean bathrooms, kitchen and pantry areas, sweep and mop floors throughout the building, clean windows and exhibit areas
• Performs interior and exterior building maintenance, including but not limited to, changing HVAC filters, maintaining deck, playground, trail signs and exhibits.
• Completes all required maintenance reports thoroughly and on time
• Fill outs, sends, files and follow ups on work requests, stock room acquisitions, and purchasing supplies.
• Calls in storm reports to Jones Beach Operations.
• Identifies building maintenance needs and alert supervisor.
• Keeps maintenance tools clean and organized
• Pick up or drop off items at Storehouse, Admin building or Headquarters
• Restocks rags, cleaning supplies, toilet paper, garbage bags, and other items as necessary.
• Set ups and breakdowns tables and chairs for educational programs and events.
• Operates and performs routine maintenance on a variety of power-driven mechanical equipment, including snow removal equipment, vacuums and mowers.
• Assists in emergency situations by applying emergency procedures and practices, assisting and directing staff, and working with patrons to minimize problems.
• Conducts inspections of assigned areas for safety hazards and correct problems where possible and make requests for appropriate skilled trades assistance when needed.
• Assists with the duties of opening and closing shift supervisor.
• Assists with events and be available to work various hours including weekends.
• Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications One year of experience* in the operation and/ or maintenance of a park, historic site, golf course, or recreational facility.
*In addition to operations and maintenance, the following types of experience are also qualifying: law enforcement or security, firefighting, environmental education, environmental stewardship, natural resource management, forest management, wildlife management or preservation, or historic preservation or interpretation;
OR
One year of military service in any of the military branches;
OR
An Associate’s or higher-level degree**, or 60 credit hours of college level coursework; OR
Completion of an appropriate two-year technical / trades school program or two years' experience as a trades assistant under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson.

Reassignment Qualifications:
Current NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Employees only, with at least one year of permanent or contingent-permanent qualifying service as a Park Worker 3.
Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must be able to load, move, and unload materials of varying weights and sizes.
• Ability to stand for long periods of time.
SALARY INFORMATION:
The listed hiring rate combines the statutory hiring rate for CSEA Grade 9 ($42,641) with Location Pay ($4,000). Similarly, the posted job rate is a combination of the statutory job rate ($52,413) with the Location Pay ($4,000).
