Duties Description The Chief Psychologist is responsible for coordinating and/or providing clinical supervision of NYS Licensed Psychologists and other Psychologist staff. This individual will maintain departmental policies and procedures and will implement the competency program for psychologists at the facility.
The incumbent will provide psychology-specific expertise and leadership in program development and evaluation; will ensure appropriate numbers and deployment of psychology staff to meet patients' needs for assessment and other psychological interventions.
Minimum Qualifications Open to qualified employees of New York State
Candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list for the title;
OR
Transfer Opportunity: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/c service as a Chief Psychologist or in a title approved for transfer via Section 70.1 or 52.6 of Civil Service Law. In addition, candidates must be licensed and registered to practice psychology in New York State.
Provisional Opportunity: In the event that there is not a valid eligible list, candidates who meet the following promotion qualifications may be qualified for a provisional appointment:
Candidates must be licensed and registered to practice psychology in New York State AND have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/c service as a Principal Psychologist
OR
Two years of permanent competitive or 55-b/c service as a Psychologist 2, Associate Psychologist, or Licensed Psychologist.
If you are provisionally appointed, you must take the next scheduled Civil Service examination for this title and your score must be reachable on the resulting eligible list before you can be permanently appointed. If you do not pass the examination or achieve a reachable score, you may not be retained.

This position is eligible for Downstate Adjustment of $4,000.

If appointed, you may be required to become an enrolled Medicare provider; obtain and provide to your employer a National Provider Identifier (NPI) number issued by the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES); and otherwise actively participate to the degree necessary to allow for your services to be billed through Medicare and Medicaid. If you are appointed and lose the ability to bill through Medicare and Medicaid, you may be terminated from your employment.
Continued employment as a Chief Psychologist is dependent upon current licensure and registration to practice psychology in New York State. Loss of licensure and registration may result in removal from employment.
