Duties Description Under the direction of the Grounds and Buildings Supervisor and the Historic Site Manager, the selected candidate will conduct day-to-day maintenance and night patrol operations at Schuyler Mansion State Historic Site. On occasion, the individual in this position may be required to assist in this capacity at Crailo State Historic Site in Rensselaer, NY. Job duties include but are not limited to:
• Patrol the grounds and buildings with a handheld Tour Pro system for recording the findings of each patrol round. This information is communicated in writing, as well as in face-to-face communications with the Grounds and Buildings Supervisor and Historic Site Manager.
• Upkeep of grounds, to include such seasonal tasks as mowing, weeding, raking, gardening, snow & ice removal, etc.
• Clean restrooms, offices and garage.
• Monitor and clean equipment such as snow blowers, weed eaters, lawn mowers.
• Regular monitoring of AED device.
• Monitor walkways, overhead limbs, and other slip, trip and overhead safety issues; help to eliminate unsafe conditions.
• Report any unusual activity in the vicinity during the shift.
• Participate in on-the-job training, safety training and other annual mandated training.
• The incumbent may also serve as a representative to the public during special events, or perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications One year of experience in the operation and/or maintenance of a park, historic site, golf course, or recreational facility;
OR - One year of experience in any of the following fields:
• Law enforcement or security
• Firefighting
• Emergency Medical Services
• Environmental education or stewardship
• Natural resources management (e.g., forest management, wildlife management/preservation)
• Historic preservation or interpretation
• Landscaping or grounds maintenance
OR - One year of military service in any branch of the United States Armed Forces;
OR - Thirty (30) semester credit hours* of college-level coursework from an accredited college or university;
OR - Completion of a two-year technical/trades school program;
OR - Two years of experience as a trade assistant working under the direct supervision of a skilled tradesperson.
*Your credit hours must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. Reassignment Qualifications:
Current NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Employees only, with at least one year of permanent or contingent-permanent qualifying service as a Park Worker 3.
Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to operate a vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must be able to communicate in writing; to read and comprehend written material.
• Must possess strong communication skills and attention to detail.
• Must be able to traverse stairs regularly on patrol rounds.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Some experience with lawn care preferred.
