Duties Description Essential Functions:
Installs, repairs, maintains, and replaces locking mechanisms, keys, door hardware, and related components for campus buildings and facilities
Disassembles locks, replace defective parts, clean and lubricate locking mechanisms, and troubleshoot lock malfunctions
Makes duplicate and replacement keys; maintain secure storage of keys and key inventory systems
Maintains records related to locks, keys, key issuance, and access control systems
Installs and maintains electronic locking devices and related door control systems
Opens jammed or inaccessible locks using appropriate locksmithing tools and techniques
Non-Essential Functions:
Performs routine carpentry and maintenance tasks associated with lock and door hardware installations, including installing door checks, Door closer, sash fittings, and replacing glass panes
Assists in training and directing Facility Operations Assistants or other support staff on maintenance tasks
Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
Two years of full-time experience in locksmith work under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson; OR completion of a two-year technical school course in locksmithing at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services*; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of appropriate technical courses in locksmithing at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
Possession of valid New York State driver's license (class D or above)
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of locksmithing tools, techniques, materials, and safety procedures.
Ability to install, repair, and maintain mechanical and electronic locking systems.
Ability to overtime, sometimes on short notice, respond to off-hour emergency calls, and provide an acceptable response.
Ability to maintain accurate records and inventories related to keys and locking systems.
Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, climbing ladders, bending, and working in confined spaces.
Works well with a diverse groups, as a team, with a positive customer service attitude.
Ability to obtain Operations and Maintenance certification for asbestos removal.
Experience working in an institutional, educational, healthcare, or commercial facilities environment.
Experience with electronic access control systems and card access technology.
Basic carpentry experience related to doors, frames, and hardware installation.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and prioritize multiple assignments.
