Duties Description Under the direction of the Regional Maintenance Supervisor 3, the incumbent will perform journey-level work in carpentry. The incumbent will also assist other trades work as needed. The incumbent's duties will include but are not limited to the following:
• Perform work in the areas of carpentry, working independently and with a crew as is typical of a craftsperson in restoration, construction, and repairs at State Parks and Historic Sites within the Taconic Region.
• Perform carpentry work that will include but will not be limited to: Framing (New and Old Construction); installation of various types of doors and windows; insulating; drywall installation (taping included); flooring; installation of shelving; cabinetry installation; as well as possible construction of cabinetry.
• Installation, maintenance and repair of a variety of locksets and mechanical keypad lock mechanisms. Including key cutting and maintenance of key control records.
• Use the normal tools of the trade in a skilled manner, including hand tools, power tools, shop equipment, and measuring and testing instruments appropriate for the tasks assigned.
• Follow instructions, including written instructions, Blueprint reading, diagnose problems, make detailed estimates for cost of time and materials, order parts and supplies as needed, and update equipment service records.
• Perform all other related duties of maintaining parks within the Taconic Region as directed.
• Perform all work in a safe and professional manner.
Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience* in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
*If verifiable, we will accept and prorate appropriate part-time and volunteer experience.
Additional Comments Operational Needs:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Locksmith knowledge and familiarity with the Best Lock System preferred
• Must have the ability to supervise others.
• Must have the ability to communicate in writing and to read and comprehend written material.
• Must be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with other staff and park patrons.
• May have to travel to other parks.
