Duties Description The New York State Education Department's Office of Education Policy is seeking candidates for the position of Supervisor of Education Programs in its Office of Standards and Instruction. This office coordinates programs and initiatives that promote high-quality, standards-based instruction in P12 schools and districts. Duties of this position will include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Provide expert assistance to management in developing and implementing policy and legislative and regulatory proposals on a variety of topics, including learning standards, instruction, P-12 program requirements, and diploma requirements;
• Oversee all aspects of contracts with consultants and vendors for Office programs and initiatives, including advisory panels, professional development, standards development, and creation of guidance and resource materials;
• Facilitate large-scale initiatives under the advisement of the Director on topics related to NY Inspires, including standards revision and prioritization;
• Ensure the programmatic materials, guidance documents, resources, and Office communications accurately reflect NYSED policies and procedures;
• Maintain through ongoing research and networking, expertise in the trends in state, national, and international standards, curriculum, and instruction, to support NYSED initiatives and inform policy development;
• Coordinate and facilitate communication with internal and external stakeholders and senior management in a variety of ways, including drafting and editing written reports, facilitating internal meetings, presenting at statewide meetings and conferences, hosting webinars, and maintaining online support documentation;
• Work closely with and respond directly to SED senior management as needed;
• Coordinate and manage program office initiatives, including developing and managing timelines, budgets, and responsibilities and work of professional and support staff;
• Supervise professional staff and ensure timely, quality completion of all assigned work, time sheets, probationary reports and performance evaluations; and
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications Reassignment: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as a Supervisor of Education Programs.

Additional Comments This will be a contingent permanent appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. This position allows for the opportunity to telecommute up to 30% each bi-weekly pay period and is granted at the discretion of the supervisor and the appointing office. This position will require 5% in-state/Statewide travel.

This position leads to a maximum salary of $138,203 based on annual performance advances. For new State employees appointed to graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts.
