Minimum Qualifications Open to NYS employees with one year of permanent competitive service as an Information Technology Specialist 1, G-14, OR in a position at G-12 or above deemed administrative under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law OR in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of Civil Service Law. The transfer cannot be a second consecutive transfer resulting in an advancement of more than two salary grades.
Candidates eligible for consideration under Section 70.4 of Civil Service Law with one year of permanent competitive service as a G-12 or above with active status on the eligible list for this title and those eligible for consideration under Section 55 b/c are also encouraged to apply. For 55 b/c consideration, candidates must satisfy at least one of the following:
1. An associate's or higher-level degree in computer science, computer information systems, telecommunications, or management information systems; OR

2. A minimum of 60 college semester credit hours including at least 15 credit hours in computer science; OR

3. A total of one year of experience in the following computer related areas: network, server, storage, and systems management; telecommunications; IT customer support and training; computer installation, diagnosis and repair; technical writing; computer security; knowledge management; database administration, design and management; internet/intranet development, design, and maintenance; information technology project management; design and development of geographic information systems or computer aided drafting applications; computer programming; business/systems analysis; program design; or program testing.

Preferred Qualifications
• A strong IT background and advanced technical working knowledge of desktop and printers.
• Advanced technical background in software familiarity and working knowledge of hardware and software configurations.
• Experience in Microsoft Active Directory, Windows 7, Outlook, Microsoft Office Suite, TCP/IP, DNS & DHCP Infrastructures, Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager, and SharePoint.
• A working knowledge of System Development within a Project Management methodology.
• Experience in Web Development and/or other development tools.
• Excellent communication skills and customer service orientation.
• Ability to work independently on assigned tasks to completion.

Duties Description Within the Disabilities & Aging Cluster, the Information Technology Specialist 1 will be assigned to the Statewide Technical Support Group (STSG) which supports the Capital District Area at the main Schenectady office, satellite offices and homes throughout the region. The incumbent will report to an Information Technology Specialist 2 and assist in supporting hardware and software technology for all business units (e.g. HR, Finance, Quality Assurance, and Security) as well as for individuals with developmental disabilities and those who directly care for them.
Duties will include, but not be limited to, the following:
• Establish and maintain a professional working relationship with the user community, co-workers and management to effectively provide problem resolution services.
• Configure, maintain, deploy and install desktops, mobile devices, and printers in an Active Directory environment. Use proper Active Directory policies and Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager in the management of devices.
• Troubleshoot issues with hardware, drivers, and Microsoft Windows operating systems; resolving Level 2 issues.
• Troubleshoot wired and wireless network connectivity issues; resolving Level 2 issues.
• Set up, configure and troubleshoot applications. The application sources include; commercial, enterprise, and local which are developed and maintained by the Capital District STSG.
• Assist with full System Life Cycle (i.e. analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, and maintenance) of local applications. Work within Project Management methodology.
• Use the IT Service Management (NYS instance of Service Now application) to communicate and track all customer issues and requests.

• Research, evaluate and test new hardware and software technology products and assist in the development of policy for new technology initiatives.
