Duties Description The Office of Mental Health (OMH) is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a Research Scientist 2, Grade 22, position in the Office of the Chief Medical Officer, Office of Population Health & Evaluation, Bureau of Predictive Analytics & Tableau Reporting. The Research Scientist 2 will support the Office of the Chief Medical Officer, Office of Population Health & Evaluation, Bureau of Predictive Analytics & Tableau Reporting. The Research Scientist 2 is responsible for maintaining critical OMH data assets, including SPARCS inpatient, emergency department, and vital statistics data, supporting federal reporting requirements, assisting with program evaluation reporting, and contributing to public mental health research projects.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Work with large administrative data, perform data extraction and match/merge with other data sources to create analytical files using SAS and SQL.
• Develop and maintain monthly/quarterly updates of Tableau reports.
• Conduct ongoing Tableau quality checks.
• Conduct quantitative analyses using statistical software such as SAS and R.
• Create and update analytical tables for SPARCS (Statewide Planning and Research Cooperative System) Inpatient/ER/Vital statistics data.
• Provide ad hoc reports as needed.

Minimum Qualifications This is a full-time non-competitive position. The minimum qualifications for appointment to a Research Scientist 2 position are a bachelor’s degree and three years of professional research experience in an appropriate field OR a master’s degree and two years of professional research experience in an appropriate field. Ph.D. in an appropriate field may substitute for an additional year of experience. Appropriate fields include Biostatistics, Economics, Epidemiology, Public Health, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, or a related social science field.

Preferred Qualifications:
Strong analytic, statistical, and data management skills. Experience with analyzing, extracting, merging, and linking large relational health care datasets, including Medicaid data. Proficient in the use of SAS or SQL, Microsoft Excel, Word and Power Point. Knowledge of statistical methods and their application for predictive analytics. Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau and/or Power BI is desired. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. The ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment.
