Duties Description A Construction Equipment Operator in the Grounds Department at the University is involved with the performance of laboring tasks of heavier and more complex self-propelled equipment and machinery. Such equipment includes; backhoes, front-end loaders, skid steers, wing plows, street sweeper/storm sewer machine etc.
Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
One year of experience in the operation of equipment noted as appropriate for this class and the possession of a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle operated.
Appointment will be contingent upon successful completion of pre-employment testing for controlled substance use as mandated by the Federal Highway Administration Omnibus Transportation Act of 1991 (OTETA). Employment cannot commence until notification for successful completion of this pre-employment testing is received. Please note that in addition to the initial testing required by OTETA, the Act further requires that the University conduct pre-assignment (promotion), reasonable suspicion, post-accident, random, follow-up and return to duty drug and alcohol testing throughout the period of employment.
OPERATING NEEDS:
Must be physically able to perform the tasks of the position and be able to understand and carry out written or oral instructions including the full understanding and operation of using a backhoe, showing that you can dig and safely control a job site dig. Ability to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime and be subject to shift changes to accommodate snow removal needs.
Possess a valid NYS Commercial Driver's License - Class B or higher.
