Duties Description The incumbent will be required to perform all duties listed in the Highway Maintenance Worker 2 job duties description as described in the Highway Maintenance Worker Series Manual that include but are not limited to: being a member of a work crew; operating heavier and more complex self-propelled equipment in Category Two and higher categories; providing on-the-job training to other maintenance workers in the operation of highway construction and maintenance equipment; providing direction to highway maintenance crews as lead worker when needed; and directing the performance of specific tasks as assigned by a Highway Maintenance Supervisor. When acting as a lead worker, they will make assignments, provide instructions, oversee and assist work, and keep appropriate records. In addition, Highway Maintenance Worker 2 may be required to supervise a snow & ice location.

- Must respond to emergency call-outs within an hour during inclement weather, including snow and ice conditions, to be considered for the position.

Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.

Minimum Qualifications Must have at least one year of satisfactory experience as a Highway Maintenance Worker 1 and possess NYS DOT certification to operate at least two additional types of Category 2 equipment and at least two types of Category 3 equipment, (minimum of 9 certifications total).

Note: higher category certifications may be used in place of lower category certifications.

Highway Maintenance Worker 2: The salary for this position is $54,081 - $64,322. This amount is comprised of the base salary of $45,081 - $55,322 with an additional geographic pay differential of $9,000, specific to this title and location.
