Duties Description Responsibilities include supervising all aspects of grounds maintenance, such as landscaping, lawn care, tree and shrub maintenance, athletic field upkeep, snow and ice removal, and operation and maintenance of grounds equipment. Additional duties include hiring and training staff, conducting performance evaluations, managing time and attendance records, approving leave requests, and making recommendations regarding employee retention or termination.
This role combines hands-on grounds maintenance with staff leadership and requires flexibility to support seasonal operations, including early morning, evening, weekend, overtime, and emergency call-back assignments.

Minimum Qualifications Non-competitive:
Three years of experience and/or training in grounds maintenance work, of which one year involved supervision over subordinates; or one year as a Facility Operations Assistant 2 (Grounds).*
-Ability to understand and carry out written and/or oral instructions
-Ability to work overtime
-Physically able to perform the tasks of the position including, but not limited to, those in the Examples of Duties & Responsibilities
-Valid driver’s license and the ability to drive state vehicles with proper authorization
-A demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with a variety of individuals
*This position will be required to possess the appropriate license or certification to apply pesticides, herbicides and other treatments upon appointment.
Additional Comments Grounds Maintenance is dedicated to maintaining the natural beauty of our 265-acre campus completing routine maintenance for a variety of surfaces and areas. The Supervisor of Grounds provides effective, accountable leadership and supervision of Facility Operations Assistants and other assigned grounds, custodial, and maintenance staff. This position oversees the maintenance, safety, and appearance of campus grounds and exterior facilities by planning and assigning work, monitoring performance, enforcing safety standards, training staff, maintaining records, and reporting operational needs and project status to management.
We are part of the Administration & Finance division and provide essential services to our campus, local, state, federal and international customers. We navigate systems in a collaborative and sensitive way to assist the University in achieving its educational mission. This position is expected to work Monday-Friday, 6:00am – 2:30pm.
