Duties Description The Environmental Education Assistant for Ray Brook will be responsible for four main areas:

1) Education
2) Summer Camps
3) Public Outreach
4) Education staff

Duties:

1) Education - Conduct student, adult, family and public education and outdoor recreation programs.

2) Summer Camps - Assist summer camp educators in camp staff training. Recruit campers primarily for the campership program. Coordinate with local schools and organizations identifying potential campers. Assist families complete required Campership paperwork. May assist interviewing, recruiting, and on-site camp supporting throughout the season.

3) Public Outreach - Interact and communicate with the public at fairs, festivals, and/or other public events. on DEC’s mission and goals and environment and natural resources.

4) Education Staff - Assist education staff answering public questions, scheduling programs, creating lesson plans, filing documents, and maintaining living collections, artifacts and supplies. Assist education staff setting up and conducting educator workshops using national environmental education programs such as Project WILD (Wildlife in Learning Design), Learning Tree and WET (Water Education for Teachers). May need to lift and carry boxes and display materials for educational programs.

Minimum Qualifications one year of experience in environmental education programs; or one year college study with specialization in natural science, natural resources, or environmental education.

Additional Comments This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with an anticipated end date of 11/30/2026. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.

Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview.

Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Transportation needs of this position require use of a state vehicle and adhering to the Department’s Vehicle Policy. You must have and maintain a valid driver’s license for this position.
Travel may be required.
Overtime may be required.
Overnight travel may be required.
Weekends and holidays may be required.
Telecommuting may be available up to 50% of work schedule, will be discussed at interview.
